Kikowaena - Hooping in Paradise

Kikowaena means "center of the circle" in Hawaiian. What an appropriate phrase to describe the beauty that hooping has brought into my life. We are building a movement and building a brand here in Honolulu, so hopefully you will start seeing more hooping on Oahu! This blog was made to promote our hooping, but also to spread beautiful photos and videos of other hoopers around the world.

2009 was the first time I ever saw her hoop. I think she was wearing this exact outfit, or something similar. It was during Desert Dawn when all the hoopers came out, and I happened to be really close to the pedestal she was on. She was spinning double LED hoops and was wearing gold lame, and I knew I was in love. And that I had to learn how to do what she was doing. That was the moment that I decided to BE A HOOPER!
And it’s nice to know that I’ve fulfilled that intention. I have made it a reality, and I can truly say that I’ve become a badass. And it was all because of her badassery. I still haven’t made it to Burning Man… One day. But I’ll always have Cheese.

LED Hoop Video: Check out my progress with my new LED mini hoops!

I made this in March as a means of tracking my progress since learning a new series of moves. The first trick was at the end of September from Maiki at HoopCamp. The rest of the series from Cassie’s YouTube tutorials. And then in depth troubleshooting from Tressa. Mahalo to all of you.

The lovely Lealyn, one of our newest hoopers on Oahu. She moved here from Colorado, and is enjoying our Hawaiian winter by hooping on the beach!

you-are-already-perfect:

Everything in the universe spins (Atoms, planets, galaxies, etc) .The ancients used the swastika to represent the spiral movements of sacred geometry and the universe itself. This might be why it is the oldest known symbol on our planet.

A beautiful thing under the right context. It makes me think of my buugeng spinning together
